ST. PAUL, Minn.—Minnesotans who need health insurance for 2024 can now preview plans through MNsure, Minnesota’s official health insurance marketplace. MNsure’s annual open enrollment period for health insurance begins November 1, and Minnesotans can get a jump start by going to MNsure.org to shop, compare options, and get a free and anonymous cost estimate.

“MNsure is the only place Minnesotans can compare health plans from multiple insurance companies, side-by-side,” said MNsure CEO Libby Caulum. “When you shop for health insurance through MNsure, you can be confident you’re getting the right plan, at the right price, for you and your family.”

With just three key pieces of information — where you live, who is in your household, and total household income — you can get an immediate estimate of how much money you could save by enrolling in a private health plan for 2024 through MNsure. And you can find out if any household members may be eligible for no- or low-cost coverage through Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare.

Preview the 2024 plans available in your area and narrow results by yearly deductible or how you and your plan split the cost of care (“metal levels” of gold, silver or bronze). Using MNsure’s online tool, you can select up to three plans at a time to compare side-by-side. In addition to searching for medical providers, like doctors, this year you can also search for dental providers and medical facilities to estimate whether your preferred providers or locations will be in your plan.

“MNsure is the only place Minnesotans can get discounts to lower their health care costs,” added Caulum. “We estimate eligible Minnesota families will save an average of $562/month ($6,750/year) when they purchase health insurance for 2024 through MNsure. Those savings can make a huge difference for a family’s budget.”

These significant savings are thanks to advanced premium tax credits, which act like an instant discount to lower the cost of monthly premiums and are exclusively available through MNsure. For example:

  • A couple in their 60s in Minneapolis with an annual income of $80,000 can enroll in a gold plan and apply tax credits to cut their monthly premium nearly in half, saving almost $9,000 per year.
  • A family of four in Fergus Falls with an annual income of $93,000 can enroll in a silver plan and apply tax credits to reduce their premiums by 68%. Their monthly bill would change from nearly $1,200 to under $400, and they would save about $9,700 annually.

More examples of available savings across the state can be found in the MNsure scenario packet (PDF).
